The Seattle Surge, New York Subliners, Florida Mutineers and Los Angeles Thieves earned first-round wins Friday as the Call of Duty League season began with the opening night of the Kickoff Classic at Arlington, Texas.
The four teams received first-round byes: the reigning champion Atlanta FaZe plus the Toronto Ultra, OpTic Texas (formerly OpTic Chicago) and the Minnesota Rokkr.
The Surge swept the London Royal Ravens 3-0 to earn a quarterfinal matchup with the FaZe.
The Subliners edged the Boston Breach 3-2 to set up a quarterfinal showdown with the Rokkr.
The Mutineers handled the Los Angeles Guerrillas 3-1 to establish a date with the Ultra, and the Thieves dumped the Paris Legion 3-1 to get a shot at Texas.
New York won all the odd-numbered games, 250-140 on Bocage Hardpoint, 3-2 on Gavutu Control and 6-1 on Berlin Search and Destroy, while Boston took the even-numbered games 6-5 on Tuscan Search and Destroy and 250-240 on Berlin Hardpoint.
Florida captured the first two maps, 250-246 on Bocage Hardpoint and 6-3 on Berlin Search and Destroy. The Guerrillas stayed alive with a 3-2 victory on Tuscan Control before the Mutineers sealed the series with a 250-162 decision on Berlin Hardpoint.
Seattle took down London 250-203 on Bocage Hardpoint, 6-4 on Berlin Search and Destroy and 3-0 on Tuscan Control.
The Thieves established control by winning Gavutu Hardpoint 250-214 and Desert Siege Search and Destroy 6-1. After Paris captured Gavutu Control 3-2, Los Angeles took Tuscan Hardpoint 250-158 to wrap up the contest.
The quarterfinals will be played Saturday, with the semifinals and final to follow Sunday.
